Dyed Factory Window Tint vs High Performance Window Film

Why Dyed Glass Isn't Good Enough for Utah's Vehicles

Many new vehicles come with factory-tinted glass. It looks dark, it reduces some glare, and most buyers assume it provides meaningful UV and heat protection. Unfortunately, that assumption is usually wrong.

Factory-tinted glass — also called dyed glass — gets its color from pigments added to the glass during manufacturing. While it reduces visible light transmission somewhat, it does very little to block infrared heat or UV radiation. You can have very dark factory glass that still lets through the majority of the sun's heat and UV rays.

Aftermarket window films, especially ceramic films, work completely differently. They use nano-ceramic particles that reflect and absorb solar energy across the full spectrum — visible light, infrared heat, and UV radiation. A high-quality ceramic film can block up to 99% of UV rays and reject up to 80% of solar heat, regardless of how dark or light the film appears.

For Utah drivers, this distinction is critical. Our high elevation means more UV exposure, and our summer temperatures mean more solar heat load. Factory glass simply isn't engineered to handle these conditions effectively.

At Tint Citi Utah, we install premium ceramic window films that provide real protection — not just the appearance of it. We serve West Valley City, Salt Lake City, Park City, and surrounding areas.
